I Wanna Be The Guy: The Movie: The Game is a sardonic loveletter to the halcyon days of early American videogaming, packaged as a nail-rippingly difficult platform adventure. Players fill the role of The Kid, a youthful, vaguely Megaman-esque protagonist on a quest to become The Guy. This inscrutable plot, however, is just a vehicle for a wide variety of inventive, well-designed and frustrating jump-and-shoot challenges that pay homage to many of the games you loved as a child. The ever-fragile Kid explodes in a shower of red pixels at the slightest brush from the game's many obstacles, from traditional spikes and bottomless pits to more unconventional killers, such as plantlife and puzzle pieces.

Using a multiroute layout not unlike a Metroidvania, the game grants a degree of deadly exploration, without thoseextraneous upgades meant to make life easier. The game provides players with a choice in terms of their deathrate, thanks to a variable difficulty setting that changes the number of save points from frequent to nonexistent. IWBTG is open to all players; knowledge of videogaming history is optional, and may not help against the frequently ironic and always sadistic deathtraps located herein. And so, the question is left up to you...

Avoiding Crashes

While IWBTG is a buggy game, over the years the community has figured out how to better cope with it's various problems. This information is copied from the IWBTG RTA speedrunning wikia ( http://iwbtgrta.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page )To deal with random crashes...

Right-click IWBTG -> Properties -> Compatibility Tab -> Run in Windows 98 Mode -> Run as Administrator

This is generally takes care of most crashes but there are still a number of predictable ones.

There are 4 spots in the game where it is guaranteed to crash upon hitting 'R' (reset) even with the above fix. Fortunately there is a workaround thanks to Fate (formerly known as Kiyomi_) on Twitch! Hit F2 for New Game and reload your save file to avoid them.Save -> F2 -> Reload Save FileDo this on the Save Points following: 

1. The Mecha Birdo fight
2. Dr. Wily, 2 screens over, where the drones shoot at you
3. Mother Brain's red orb (same screen as above)
4. The first save on the cart ride to The Guy's Fortress

Optimally, you should just hit F2 instead of "R" upon death following these screens.

Fortunately you will not lose progress on these crashes. so even if you forget to avoid them you will be okay, outside of a minor inconvenience.

Also as much as I'd like you to find it in your heart to throw me a few bucks, you probably should be playing the officially sanctioned Remaster
